A recent example of a specialist acoustic interior fit out is the new
rehearsal facility for the London Symphony Orchestra at St. Luke's Church.
This
Grade 1
listed Hawksmore Church was refurbished to provide a rehearsal and concert
venue.

Soundcheck
were commissioned to manufacture and install an acoustic isolated ceiling
to a design by Kirkegaard Associates of Chicago. The ceiling was arranged
in 10 bays between the eaves and ridge and comprised bespoke interlocking
acoustic panels all suspended on Mason isolation hangers. Each bay
was isolated from the exposed steel roof support structure. In total
the
ceiling construction weighed over 30 tonnes and comprised in excess
of 500 separately manufactured panels. The whole of the ceiling
was overclad with cedar of Lebanon to provide the architectural effect
of a timber
lined church soffit.
Soundcheck were subsequently requested to carry out further works at
St. Luke's including absorptive treatment to the Gamelan room and
acoustic sails within the main venue space.
